What is inside a booster box

An English Pokémon booster box normally holds 36 packs from a single set, with 10 or 11 cards per pack depending on the era. A Japanese box usually holds around 30 packs of 5 cards.

Pull rates are set by the manufacturer and are not published. Treat any claim about guaranteed hits per box with suspicion — a sealed box is a sealed box.

Box, bundle or singles

Buy a box if you want the lowest cost per pack and enjoy opening. Buy a bundle if you want a taste of a set without committing to a full box. Buy singles if you want specific cards: chasing one card through packs is almost always more expensive than buying it outright.

Storage from day one

Sleeve anything you intend to keep before it leaves the table. Sleeves and a top loader cost a fraction of the card's value, and edge wear is the most common reason a card drops a grade.
